There are a couple of eating options before you go through Security: a café, a donut stand and a sandwich stall. After Passport Control, Terminal 5 has over 30 food and drink venues to choose from, including a steakhouse, an Asian kitchen, tapas, express ready-made food counters and family-friendly pizzerias. The sushi here has been widely praised.

Before going through Security, there's just one newsstand. Duty-free shopping is available in this terminal at three locations post-Security, along with around 20 other retailers and pop-up stores. Bookworms are sure to find something for the flight at the New York Times bookstore, and MUJI To Go is a well-trodden spot to browse for unique Japanese-style gifts and travel accessories.

Terminal tips

If you've got some time before your flight, get a shoe shine or try out the BeRelax Spa.

The latter offers hairdressing, pedicures and manicures, table and chair massages, and oxygen and aromatherapy treatments. You'll find it at Gates 6-7.

T5 has the only open-air observation space after Security at a NY airport.

It's called The Rooftop, and you'll find it opposite Gate 28; opening times 6:00-22:00.

Curbside check-in is available for a small fee when flying JetBlue from T5; credit/debit cards only.
